Training of Clinical Biochemists in Finland

Training of Clinical Biochemists has long traditions in Finland. Today this specialist training is given by two universities (Helsinki university and university of Eastern Finland). All laboratories of university hospitals has positions for specialist training. The postgraduate training to become clinical biochemist is a 5-year program which consists of one year of general practice and 4 years of specialist training at a laboratory of a university hospital. In addition a trainee has special courses in health care administration as well as other courses. At the end of the four-year training a trainee has to pass a final exam. During the specialist training a trainee also has to study for the Licenciate in Philosophy if a trainee does not have this or Doctor in Philosohy degree.
